STUTTGART, Ark. (AP) - Soybean rust has been confirmed in six Arkansas counties, but the levels are low enough that farmers aren't being advised to apply fungicides to their fields.
The University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture says rust has been confirmed in Chicot, Desha, Drew, Lee, Lincoln and Phillips counties.
The division says that the disease isn't expected to spread, but it may continue to develop within fields where it's already confirmed.
Soybean rust is a fungus that can reduce farmers' yields, and it often spreads through movement of storm systems. Soybean rust has been confirmed in northeastern Louisiana and northern Mississippi.
