HOUSTON (AP) - A suspect who suffers from schizophrenia had just been released from jail less than 24 hours earlier before allegedly fatally wounding a Houston-area police officer.
The Houston Chronicle reports that 24-year-old Sergio Robles (ROH'-blehs) has been charged with capital murder and aggravated assault for Friday's slaying of Pasadena police Officer Jesse Hamilton.
Robles was also seriously injured in a shootout with another police officer. Robles was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital-Texas Medical Center in critical condition Friday but a hospital operations administrator told The Associated Press Saturday that he had been made "a no information patient."
Robles was released from the Harris County Jail on Thursday after serving a DWI sentence and arrived at his mother's mobile home around 5 a.m. Friday to see his child and the child's mother.
