LOS ANGELES (AP) - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says he will not reverse a state parole board's decision to release a terminally ill Southern California woman who was convicted of murder in the 1982 death of her abusive boyfriend.
An attorney for Deborah Peagler told the Los Angeles Times that his client was informed Thursday of the governor's decision.
Peagler was convicted of murder in 1983 for luring drug dealer and pimp Oliver Wilson to a park near Lawndale, where two men strangled him with an electrical cord. She was sentenced to 25 years to life.
Attorneys argued Peagler was the victim of extreme abuse and was forced into prostitution by Wilson.
She was diagnosed with lung cancer this year. Schwarzenegger had until Friday to review the parole board ruling.
