Joaquin, Texas: Following the money

Posted: Updated:

JOAQUIN, TX (KSLA) - A fund set aside to pay tribute to victims of a 2002 train crash in Joaquin, Texas has been turned over to the Shelby County District Attorney's Office.

Investigators said that Joaquin City Council woman Sheila Posey originally set up the fund in 2002.

According to them, she closed the bank account in January of this year and was keeping the money for herself.

The fund was originally designed to raise money for crossing signals at the intersection of the wreck, but city workers realized that they couldn't raise enough for. It will go toward a memorial and scholarships instead.

Workers should complete the memorial for the crash victims in the next 60 days.
