LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The state of Arkansas and the city of Fort Smith will receive a total of $36.6 million in grants from the federal Housing and Urban Development Department, to be used for housing improvements and community development projects, the agency said Tuesday.
A news release from HUD said the state would get $19.3 million and Fort Smith would get $832,420 in Community Development Block Grants.
According to the release, Fort Smith will also get $525,518 in HOME grants to produce affordable housing for low-income families, while the state will receive $14 million in such funds.
The remainder of the money will go to the state, the release said: $1.2 million in Emergency Shelter Grant program funds and $797,682 in funds from the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS program, or HOPWA.
