ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - A judge has postponed by a day closing arguments in the trial of a former Louisiana congressman accused of taking bribes.
The jury in the trial of former Rep. William Jefferson will now hear summations in the eight-week trial on Wednesday instead of Tuesday.
U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III decided at a hearing Monday evening that he needed an extra day to put together jury instructions.
Jefferson is accused of receiving more than $400,000 in bribes in exchange for brokering business deals in Africa. FBI agents who searched his home in 2005 found $90,000 cash hidden in his freezer.
