KENNER, La. (AP) - Police say a 58-year-old deaf woman was killed Saturday night when she was struck by a train in Kenner.
The train was traveling eastbound at Kenner Avenue and Taylor Street when it hit the woman on the tracks shortly after 7 p.m. Police say the victim, Cynthia Tuckson, died at the scene.
Witnesses say the train was blowing its whistle but the site has no flashing lights or crossing barrier. The train belongs to the Illinois Central Railroad, owned by Canadian National Railway Co.
Police and the company will conduct separate investigations into the incident.
