BELTON, Texas (AP) - Digital shooting is expected to wrap Thursday in Belton on a documentary film on the death of notorious bank robbery John Dillinger.
Local lore says Dillinger passed through the Central Texas town before being gunned down in Illinois. Executive producer and director William Kelley started shooting Wednesday on the 75th anniversary of Dillinger's death.
Dillinger was killed on July 22, 1934, by federal agents outside the Biograph Theater in Chicago. Kelley, a history buff and technical adviser to the movie industry, told The Associated Press that the nearly century-old Beltonian Theater looks much like the Biograph.
Kelley said he plans to premiere the two-hour movie at the Beltonian, but has no timetable for the debut.
Belton, with a population of about 16,000, is 50 miles north of Austin.
