TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - As lawyers begin to defend evangelist Tony Alamo against sex-crime charges, their biggest liability might be their client.
The 74-year-old Alamo had an outburst in court Monday about 1993 Branch Davidian raid at Waco, and later told reporters that "the FBI likes to burn Christians."
Alamo faces a 10-count criminal indictment accusing him of taking young girls across state lines for sex.
Prosecutors will likely rest their case Tuesday after questioning several more witnesses and playing some of Alamo's jailhouse telephone calls for jurors. Defense lawyers expect to call as many as 10 witnesses and rest their case by Thursday.
Defense lawyer Phillip Kuhn says he doesn't know whether his client will testify. If Alamo does, Kuhn says it will be against his advice.
