TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) - Military war material that hasn't been used since the 1980's is being blown up soon in Texarkana, Texas.
A highly trained team of military personnel are planning to disarm the Spartan rocket motors beginning Tuesday, July 21st at the Red River Ammunitions Center in Texarkana.
Officials say the public will not be in any danger during this controlled burns.
"The public shouldn't worry about safety issues because that is one of the things that have been a very well developed procedure, which also is following safety and environmental conditions," said Harrell Hignight, with the Red River Army Depot. "We just want this to be an environmentally safe condition."
There are 24 Spartan Rocket Motors that have to be deactivated. Once the project starts on Tuesday, they'll burn one each day until they are finished.
