BATON ROUGE, LA (KSLA) -The latest unemployment figures report for the United States was released early Thursday morning.
The number of unemployed U.S. citizens increased a little more than four percent from May of 2008 to May of 2009, according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission.
In Louisiana, more than 76,000 Louisiana residents filed for unemployment in May of 2008. In 2009, that number rose to more than 130,000, says the LA Workforce Commission.
And in Caddo, Bossier and DeSoto Parishes, percentages also increased during the same time span.
Caddo's unemployment claims rose from 4.4 percent to 7.1 percent. In Bossier claims increased from 3.6 percent to 5.6 percent and in DeSoto, from 6.2 percent to 8 percent.
The commission says Louisiana's numbers still outperform the nation.
