COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) - Government and economic development officials in Mississippi will apply for a state grant to help a Texas company locate a new steel mill in western Lowndes County.
The mill would employ about 65 people and represent a $25 million investment by Houston, Texas-based New Process Steel at the Golden Triangle Industrial Park.
NPS has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Golden Triangle Planning and Development District outlining plans for the flat rolled steel manufacturing plant.
GTPDD Project Analyst George Crawford says local officials will apply for a $1.6 million Community Development Block Grant to help fund the plant's construction. Lowndes County would provide a $180,000 match.
