Crystal Bridges announces acquisition of Moran

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) - The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art has acquired a 19th century landscape by the painter Thomas Moran.

The museum announced Wednesday its acquisition of "Autumn Landscape," painted by Moran in 1862. The museum acquired the painting from the Harvey and Bernice Jones Trust.

According to the museum, Bernice Jones bought the painting in 1960 at Barack's Antique Auction. The painting hung in Harvey Jones' office at Jones Truck Lines in Springdale until the company was sold in 1980. The painting was then moved to the Jones' home.

A spokesman for the Jones Trust says the couple would have wanted the painting to remain in northwest Arkansas, and that Bernice Jones didn't know it was a Moran landscape when she bought it at auction.
