LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Gov. Mike Beebe is asking President Barack Obama to declare a disaster in 37 counties affected by storms and flooding last month.
Beebe on Tuesday asked for a disaster declaration from the Obama administration and said that officials estimate more than $6 million in damage from the storms and floods that began in late April.
The request is for public assistance services from the federal government, including direct funding for affected counties, hazard mitigation funds and Small Business Administration disaster loans for eligible businesses.
Beebe requested the declaration for Arkansas, Bradley, Calhoun, Chicot, Clark, Cleveland, Conway, Dallas, Drew, Fulton, Grant, Greene, Hempstead, Hot Spring, Howard, Jackson, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lee, Lincoln, Little River, Marion, Miller, Monroe, Nevada, Ouachita, Perry, Phillips, Pike, Poinsett, Polk, Prairie, Saint Francis, Saline, Searcy, Stone, and Union counties.
