BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Baton Rouge area lawmakers are scrambling to find about $25 million to extend the widening of Interstate 12 to Juban Road.
The interstate expansion is now set to end at Denham Springs, which lawmakers say will not provide enough traffic relief.
The state already plans to spend $100 million to widen I-12 to three lanes in each direction from O'Neal Lane to Denham Springs by November 2011.
The project includes the installation of 2 new side-by-side bridges over the Amite River that will have three lanes each.
The section of I-12 under scrutiny is part of a corridor between Baton Rouge and Hammond where 10 people died in traffic crashes over a three-month period in 2007.
