POCAHONTAS, Ark. (AP) - The body of a swimmer who apparently drowned in the Eleven Point River was found well downstream from where he had been swimming, authorities say.
The body of Jerry Clements, 34, of Pocahontas, was found by a fisherman near the Blacks Ferry bridge, about 3.5 miles downstream from where he failed to surface while swimming on May 23.
"We didn't expect it to be that far from where he disappeared," Randolph County Sheriff Gary Tribble said after Clements' body was recovered Wednesday. Searchers had been looking further upstream, he said.
Clements' body was sent to the state medical examiner's office at Little Rock for an autopsy.
