Meth lab found in truck that hit Caddo bus

Posted: Updated:

CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) - A pickup that hit a Caddo Parish school bus Friday afternoon had the equipment inside needed to make a meth lab, Caddo authorities said.

The bus was taking kids home on the final day of school. Authorities believe say drugs or alcohol may have played a part in the accident.

The wreck happened Friday afternoon on Highway 71 and Reid Road just north of Belcher.

Authorities say bus No. 32 with 11 students on board was making a left onto Reid Road when a Ford F150 truck passed other vehicles stopped for the bus and hit it.

No children on the bus were hurt, but all four people in the truck were taken to the hospital. One person was airlifted to LSU in critical condition.

According to deputies, the truck's driver tried to flee from the ambulance and leave the scene. He and the other two truck passengers were also taken to LSU Hospital. Authorities are still investigating, and no charges have been filed yet.

The bus had elementary and middle school students from the Oil City school on board. Friday was the last day of school for Caddo Parish students.
