Man pleads innocent in 3 traffic deaths

Associated Press - May 22, 2009 7:34 AM ET

AMITE, La. (AP) - Prosecutors say a 21-year-old Hammond man has pleaded innocent to vehicular homicide and other charges stemming from a hit & run accident that killed three people near Southeastern Louisiana University in early March.

Derek L. Quebedeaux, who remains under house arrest, entered the innocent plea Thursday before Judge Bruce Bennett.

On May 8, a Tangipahoa Parish grand jury indicted Quebedeaux with three counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of first-degree vehicular negligent injuring and five counts of felony hit & run in connection with the crash.

Police say Quebedeaux was behind the wheel of a pickup that plowed into a group of current and former SLU students walking along a Hammond street.
