AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The Austin Tennis Academy is the third facility in the country to be certified by the U.S. Tennis Association as a regional training center for young tennis players.
The USTA is using a regional training center program to identify and develop future American tennis champions, working with junior tennis players. It said Thursday in a news release that it plans to choose two other sites in the state to create a regional training center network for Texas.
The certified centers will host USTA training camps for players ages 10-14 while continuing their existing programs. The centers also will help identify players as young as age 6 for development.
The USTA previously named the Racquet Club of the South in Atlanta and The Junior Tennis Champions Center in Maryland as certified regional training centers.
