SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Shreveport Police have re-arrested a man they say drove around town impersonating a police officer after he escaped from authorities Thursday night.
About 9 pm Thursday night, police responded to a call in the 7800 block of Millicent Way to assist Caddo Constables with a traffic stop.
The constables had pulled over 21-year-old Garrett Barton for allegedly pulling people over and pretending to be either a police officer or federal agent. When he was stopped, Barton was driving a black Ford Crown Victoria, which is similar in appearance to unmarked car driven by Shreveport Police. Authorities say the car was also outfitted with a push bumper and emergency lights.
Police say Garrett also carried a black pellet pistol in a holster, which he told police he used to intimidate the people he pulled over.
After Garrett had been handcuffed and placed in a patrol unit, police say Garrett managed to get out of the police car and fled the scene. Police found him several hours later behind a nearby apartment complex still wearing his handcuffs.
Garrett now faces charges of impersonating a peace officer and simple escape.
