NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A Colorado man, who was born in New Orleans, plans to swim seven to nine miles in Lake Pontchartrain to raise funds to restore the New Canal Lighthouse.
Matthew Moseley, of Boulder, Colo., will swim the distance from the lighthouse, with a stop at old Pontchartrain Beach, and return to the lighthouse. The swim is set for 7 a.m. on April 23.
Anne Rheams, deputy director of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation, says they're asking people to donate $1 for each mile Moseley swims. The money will go toward restoring the lighthouse, which was destroyed when Hurricane Katrina hit in August 2005.
The Almar Foundation will double pledges. To make a pledge, go to http://www.saveourlake.org
