BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) - Bossier Parish Community College Rotaract and the Rotary Club of Shreveport will welcome a member of the Little Rock Nine to campus.

Elizabeth Eckford will be sharing her experiences as one of the first African-American students to attend classes at Little Rock Central High School in Little Rock, AR.

Eckford, along with eight other classmates are known collectively as the Little Rock Nine. The integration of the was a result of the Brown v. Board of Education ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States in 1954.

She will address the audience on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 9:45 a.m. at BPCC’s Emmett E. Cook Student Services building in room 203. Eckford will also answer questions about her accounts as one of the Little Rock Nine and the Civil Rights Movement.

“Shreveport Rotary Club is thrilled to bring Elizabeth Eckford, one of the Little Rock Nine, to Shreveport and Bossier City,” says Rotarian Verni Howard. “Her courage to persevere during a tumultuous time changed the landscape of public education for our nation."
