NASCAR racer makes pit stop at Shriners

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Children and staff at Shriners Hospital for Children on Samford Ave. got quite the surprise Monday morning, as NASCAR driver David Ragan made a heart-warming pit stop to make some noise with young patients.

David Ragan, a two-time winner in the Monster Energy Cup series, proudly displayed his No. 38 Shriners Hospital branded race car - even revving the engine for the eager and joy-filled patients.

“I think the most fun I have when I visit a Shriners Hospital for Children is seeing the patients and their families,” said Ragan. “For me to come, maybe I can just distract them for a few minutes and let them not think about the surgery they’re getting ready to go into or the physical therapy they’re just leaving.”

Ragan, who’s also an ambassador for Shriners, visits hospitals during the race season to spread some excitement to young patients.

“Being a kid, being allowed to be around something loud and noisy and see a car car and have some fun...you can’t put a price tag on that,” said Ragan. “It almost does as much for me when I visit the hospitals as the patients I see.”

Ragan’s No. 38 race car on display Monday is on its way to Scottsdale, Arizona, to be auctioned off. Proceeds from the sale will go directly to Shriners.
