ASP trooper recovering from wreck, community rallies around him

Community rallies around recovering ASP trooper following crash

SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS (KSLA) - As an Arkansas State Trooper is recovering from injuries he got in a wreck, and his community is coming to his aid.

Cpl. Clayton McWilliams is in stable condition in a Little Rock, Arkansas hospital.

The Little River County Sheriffs office received the call just before 1 Thursday afternoon.

Trooper McWilliams was on his way to work another traffic accident when his cruiser left the roadway and hit a tree in Wilton Arkansas.

"The first deputy on the scene was John Butler," said Little River County Sheriff Bobby Walraven. "But he is shaken up. Like I said that was a brother of his different uniform but still a brother."

The accident is taking its toll on law enforcement officers in this rural county.

"You feel helpless knowing you can't do anything at that moment when they are stuck in that vehicle," said Deputy Gina Butler. "You try everything you can but it's like a family member."

Sheriff Walraven said since there are only about 30 law enforcement officers in the county his department works very close with the Arkansas State Police. He said through it all they are encouraged with the support the county is receiving from other agencies.

"It was obvious it was a family when we got to the hospital and seen all the different uniforms in the building."

Family members say they appreciate the outpouring of love and support and ask that everyone continue praying for Clayton.

The community is sponsoring a fundraiser for Trooper McWilliams Saturday, January 12th at Arden Community Building.

Also an account, “McWilliam’s Special Account” is set up at Milway Federal Credit Union in Ashdown Arkansas.
