HEAT FOR THE HOLIDAYS: Shreveport business gives woman new furnace

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - An ArkLaTex business looking to help those in the Shreveport area for Christmas was able to provide a warm home for the holidays to one woman.

Southern Air Heating and Cooling introduced its “Heat the Town” program with their mission to fix furnaces for those in need — for free.

Something as simple as heat, was a thing Pearlee Young didn’t have for nearly five months. Southern Air Heating and Cooling in Shreveport came in and gave Pearlee a brand new furnace for free.

“It was cold,” she said. “(I would wear) three pair of pants on, all my coats on the bed and clothes to stay warm at night with one little electric heater.”

But a phone call changed all of that.

“She said ‘congratulations,’ and I said huh, she said ‘Ms. Young you won the heater’ and I started crying," she said.

“From the first time our technician came out…when he came back to the office (and) he began sharing with us her needs," said Comfort Adviser James Preuett. "Our secretary Amy and the rest of the staff there in the office just was overwhelmingly moved by the story.”

Through its “Heat the Town” program, Southern Air was also able to fix furnaces for close to 35 people this holiday season.

For Pearlee, she's more than grateful for what was done.

“God touches in ways no one expects, no way,” she said.

Because thanks to some dedicated men, she can enjoy the gift of heat this Christmas.
