BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) - A Bossier City family is feeling the heartache behind an apartment fire that left them with nothing. Although it happened seven months ago, they are still struggling to get back on their feet.
It took firefighters about ten minutes to get the blaze under control at the Riverwood Apartments in Bossier City. They told KSLA News 12, four separate apartments were damaged.
No one was injured.
Sheila Jenkins was actually at a doctor’s appointment when the fire occurred. Her family lost everything and now they are grieving over her death.
Sheila died earlier this week from breast cancer and now the family is asking for your help to help pay for her funeral. They want to make sure their mom receives a proper burial.
“We tried to prepare financially for my mother’s eventual passing after having learned her diagnosis; however, we had not planned for the disease to take her away from us so soon," said Sheila’s daughter. "My mother’s current life insurance policy has not matured; therefore, payment will not be granted. Unfortunately, our family is under tremendous financial strain and cannot afford to pay for my mother’s funeral service. I am disabled and unable to do this by myself.”
The family says any donation amount in remembrance of their mother will help in reaching their goal. They want you to remember them during the holiday and bless those who may not be as fortunate.
“While shopping for gifts and gatherings with loved ones, please consider setting aside part of your budget to support the Jenkins’s Family to service a needy family in the community in need of funeral expenses for a loving mother who gained her wings.”
In lieu of flowers, please make your contributions payable to Heavenly Gates Funeral Home, located at 1339 Jewell Street, Shreveport, LA 71101, memo: Sheila Veronica Jenkins.
