SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - The gift of heat is what one Shreveport heating and air conditioning company is looking to bring to those in the area.

Southern Air Shreveport is bringing its annual ‘Heat the Town’ program to the city to help those who may not be able to afford repairs to their heating units.

The company does this program at their other locations throughout Northwest Louisiana, but this will be the first year they are bringing it to Shreveport.

Those looking to nominate someone will go to Southern Air Shreveport’s Facebook page (Hyperlink: https://www.facebook.com/SouthernAirShreveport/) and send a private message describing the need of the person they are nominating, along with contact information.

“You might know an older person (and) their heater’s not working right, and they can’t afford it or maybe they are embarrassed about having to ask for help,” said project manager, Josh Axsom. “This is your chance to be able to go out there and nominate them on our Facebook page, and then we’ll go out there and take care of them (and) fix that hater for them, all for free.”

If you don’t have Facebook but would like to nominate someone you can call their office number at 318-798-1801 or stop by their office at 1333 Southern Avenue in Shreveport Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The company will go out and do checks, tune ups and repairs at no cost.

“It’s a wonderful feeling to give back, and our techs take a lot of pride as well in the fact that they are able to go out there and help people,” said Axsom. “In fact a lot of them donate their time to do all these calls, and it’s a way that as a whole entire company we can give back to the Shreveport community.”

The company says their goal is to service at least 20 people this holiday season.

They will be accepting nominations now until December 21, 2018.
