SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - The Northwestern Louisiana Food Bank has received a huge helping of hams just in time to for the holiday season. Hormel Foods and Brookshire Grocery joined forces for ‘Hams For Hunger’ to provide over $150,000 worth of hams to food banks and kitchens in local communities.
Today they brought their donation to the Northwestern Louisiana Food Bank.
NWLA’s Executive Director Martha Marak highlights how a donation like this is a game changer for what the food bank can do for its clients. “Our food bank is receiving 2,040 hams which is huge for us and this type of product. A protein that’s frozen, is something that most food banks, including ours very very rarely receives,” she says. The food bank helps about 3,500 people each month.
The two major food brands have a strong partnership, committing their partnership to helping the community. “We’re thrilled about it. This is a fantastic program and Hormel has been a great partner with us for decades,” says Brookshire Chairman/CEO Brad Brookshire.
To help via social media simply tweet #HamsForHunger and tag Homel Foods. The company will donate $10 for each tweet.
KSLA 12 hosted our annual Holiday Food Drive this week that benefits the NWLA Food Bank. If you are still interested in donating for the holiday season Marak says each dollar goes even further than you’d think. For every $1 they receive in donation the organization is able to buy $10 worth of food.
If you are a family in need in the ArkLaTex area she encourages that you call the NWLA food bank for assistance.
