Springhill, Minden among 20 Safest Cities in Louisiana

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Louisiana didn’t make SafeWise.com’s 2017 Safest Cities report due to insufficient crime reporting. However, the company is pleased to acknowledge 20 secure communities from the Pelican State!

The state has struggled to keep its statewide crime rate down, often landing in the top ten for the highest crime rates in the country. In fact, according to their website, this southern state had the highest murder rate in the country in 2016- capping off 28 years atop that list.

The cities that made their list demonstrate a shift. All 20 boast violent crime rates that are below statewide averages.

“And it’s not just small towns that are focused on bucking the state’s historical crime trends," the article states. “New Orleans was ranked the forty-fourth safest metro city on our 2018 list. And Louisiana is getting a lot of support to implement crime reduction strategies across the state. In October the Department of Justice awarded more than $2.5 million in grants to law enforcement agencies in the state."

SafeWise says 65% of the cities listed had no murders, according to the FBI’s crime data. Only three cities saw more than 40 total violent crimes.
