Lunch with Coach O: Texas A&M Preview

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - LSU head coach Ed Orgeron met with journalists Monday afternoon for his final regular season Lunch with Coach O news conference.

Orgeron previewed the upcoming game against Texas A&M. The No. 7 Tigers (9-2, 5-2) will travel to College Station, TX to face the Aggies (7-4, 4-3) on Saturday for the regular season finale.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The game will air on the SEC Network.

Texas A&M is averaging more than 31 points per game. It leads the SEC in rushing. Running back Trayveon Williams has more than 1,300 yards this season. Orgeron said LSU will have to play solid defense up front and play with gap soundness.

The Aggies are leading the SEC in defense against the run. Orgeron said the LSU offense will have to spread the ball around to move it down the field.

Texas A&M is favored to win the game. Orgeron said he’s glad to be the underdog. He said he thinks his team plays better that way and he hopes the players go into the game with a chip on their shoulder.

Orgeron said defensive end Breiden Fehoko is done for the season with an arm injury.

He added with all the injuries they’ve suffered on defense, the main conversations with defensive coordinator Dave Aranda center on how to get a rush.

According to Orgeron, finishing with a 10-win season and playing in a New Year’s Day bowl game is huge for the program to move forward to the championship status that he feels LSU should eventually reach.

Orgeron also recapped LSU’s 42-10 win over Rice. The Tigers had more than 550 yards of offense against the Owls. LSU leads the SEC in turnovers.

Orgeron said playing Rice was a much-needed game for his team going into the game against Texas A&M.

He added he is happy to see former LSU head coach Les Miles is returning to the sidelines and thinks he will do well at Kansas.
