TEXARKANA, TEXAS (KSLA) - Texarkana Arkansas and Texas police officers did away with the state line today as the group teamed with a local restaurant to help children in need this upcoming holiday season.
The grill was in great demand on Thursday at On The Border Restaurant in Texarkana as customers come not only for a meal, but to help the police departments in the city.
The event was to raise funds for the annual "Shop With A Cop" an event police take children Christmas shopping.
Twenty percent of today's sell will go to help fund this years event.
For the past 30 years over 200 children on both sides of the Texarkana state line have benefited from this Christmas project.
This year police are hoping to raise $20,000 to meet the demand.
“All of our shop for a cop stuff we do every year comes from private donors,” said Les Munn, Texarkana Arkansas Police Department. “It’s from people in the community and businesses who want to donate and try and help us out as for as funding it for these kids who would not have a Christmas otherwise.”
"It is a great chance to reach out to the community and do things for our community for the people that supports us," said Lucas Lavay, On the Border's manager.
The Texarkana Shop With A Cop is set for Dec. 4th.
If you like to make a donation contact the Texarkana Arkansas or Texas police department.
