East Texan accused of running into youth waiting for school bus

Arrest made over hit-and-run wreck that hurt 7-year-old

NEW BOSTON, LA (KSLA) - An East Texas man is accused of driving the car that struck a youth who was waiting for a school bus.

The 7-year-old was hit by a station wagon near East Lion Drive at Wherry Street in New Boston, Texas, about 7 a.m. Oct. 11.

Now 31-year-old William Karl Beettner, of New Boston, is charged with one count of accident involving personal injury.

He had been a person of interest since the accident occurred in the 900 block of East Lion Drive, police said.

On Friday, investigators asked him to come in to clarify inconsistencies in the story he gave them the day of the accident.

“At that time, he admitted to hitting something in the road with his vehicle and leaving,” says a statement from the Police Department.

Authorities got a warrant for his arrest Monday.

Beettner turned himself in at 8:53 a.m. the same day then was taken to Bi-State Jail in Texarkana.

Authorities urge anyone with any information about the case to call New Boston police at (903) 628-3771.
