Texarkana police investigating fatal shooting

TEXARKANA, TEXAS (KSLA) - The Texarkana Texas Police are investigating a deadly shooting that took the life of one man overnight.

The incident happened in the 800 block of Bowie Street just before 2:30 am.

According to authorities, 32-year-old Joseph Walker called the police and informed them that he shot a man in his front yard who was allegedly trying to rob him. Officers arrived at the scene and discovered 40-year-old Rodney Richardson with multiple gunshot wounds.

During an interview with police, Walker stated that he parked his car and was getting ready to walk into his home when Richardson began walking towards the home asking for a ride. When Walker refused while walking away, Richardson allegedly threatened him saying that he was going to take his keys and other belongings while allegedly reaching for something in his waistband.

According to Walker, he thought that Richardson had a weapon on him so he shot him.

Richardson was transported to the hospital where he was then pronounced dead. After interviewing Walker, officers released him.

No weapon was found on the scene in the victim’s possession.
