VA hospital to hold mental health summit at museum
Overton Brooks VA Medical Center will hold a mental health summit Sept. 26 at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum in Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Overton Brooks VA Medical Center will hold a mental health summit from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum, 3015 Greenwood Road in Shreveport.

The summit will focus on increasing collaboration between the VA and the community on the mental health and well-being of veterans and their families.

The goal is to start an active dialogue about how the community can address veterans’ needs.

The emphasis will be suicide prevention, transition care management and homelessness

But also available will be information about other topics such as opioid use and pain management, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and military sexual trauma.

The summit is free and open to the public.

Veterans needing to enroll in VA health care also should attend.
