DESOTO PARISH, LA (KSLA) - The DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of retired K9 Deputy Kyra.

She was a highly decorated K9 who served DeSoto Parish for 8 years, Sheriff Jayson Richardson said.

Kyra was responsible for several felony arrests, most notably, according to Richardson, an armed assailant with intent on hurting other deputies.

Kyra also holds the record for the largest ecstasy seizure by a K9 and the most apprehensions of a K9 in DeSoto Parish history.

She was also the first K9 in our area to deploy from a helicopter.

Richardson also noted that while Kyra was a well-trained K9, she was happiest when around children.

Kyra retired in 2015 to her home with Cpl. Kyle Martin and his family.

Richardson asks for thoughts and prayers as they honor Kyra’s memory and all she accomplished during her career with the DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office.
